Surgeon says Diego Maradona must have artificial knees put in if the football legend is to carry on walking

Football legend, Diego Maradona's surgeon has said he needs to have artificial knees if he is to carry on walking.

German Ochoa confirmed the retired player has severe arthritis in both knees after Diego was seen in a video this week struggling to walk with the help of right-hand man Luis Campos at the training ground of the Mexican second division club he now manages. 

He said knee replacement surgery is the only long-term option for the Argentine legend.

According to Mail Online, the Colombian medic operated on the 58-year-old in 2004 and saw him again before the World Cup when he injected a gel-like fluid into his knee joints to ease his pain.

He told Argentinian news website Todo Noticias: 'Maradona has severe arthritis in both his knees and has no cartilage left.

'The bones rub together. It's a serious problem because it causes him a lot of pain and swelling and makes it difficult for him to move.

'Maradona knows the solution is an operation and protheses in both knees.

'He has to take a decision on knee replacement surgery in the short or medium term.

Claiming a genicular nerve block, which uses anaesthetic to interrupt pain signals sent to the brain, would only ease the former footballer's discomfort temporarily, he added: 'There is no solution for arthritis. It leads to a total and progressive destruction of the cartilage and if it's not dealt with, it gets worse. That's why knee replacement surgery is needed.

'Diego won't be left unable to walk, it's not going to get to that stage. Technological advances means there are solutions nowadays.

'But the most intelligent way of reaching a solution is to operate on his knees. First one and then the other. Diego knows it because we've spoken about it many times.

Aides added that after footage of Maradona struggling to walk emerged that he was suffering the consequences of his insistence on joining his squad in an informal training session and acting like he was still an active footballer.

Quavo claims he slept with Nicki Minaj on new track 'Huncho Dreams'

The Migos rapper, Quavo who just released his album “Quavo Huncho” has left many wondering after he made claims that he slept with Nicki Minaj.

The rapper made the claim in the  “Huncho Dreams” which is an obvious response to Nicki Minaj’s “Barbie Dreams”. In her song, Nicki jokes about sleeping with rappers in the industry. 

She says of Quavo:  “Somebody go and make sure Karrueche okay though / I heard she think I’m tryna give the coochie to Quavo.”

Now, Quavo has hit back at Nicki by responding with an entire song dedicated to her.

“Made her scream (Scream) / Chanel, I bought her two of ’em / You can check IG (Hey, IG) / ‘Cause when she post, it go up (Go)”

He also references Nicki Minaj being upset with him over not defending her to Cardi B over the whole “Motorsport” fiasco.

“She said I hurt her feelings 52 times (Two) / Call up queen (Nicki) / The queen can’t flex on a young bull (Flex).”

Quavo references he and Nicki’s duet, “She For Keeps”.

“Is she for keeps? (For keeps) / Only if she come with two of ’em (Two)”

He says that he’s not trying to wife Nicki and implies that the two have had sex.

“Yeah, I be snipin’ (Snipe, snipe) / I can’t be wifin’ (Nah, no wife) / I know she feisty (Feisty, feisty)”

He refers to himself as video game character Bison from Street Fighter. Nicki often refers herself to Street Fighter character Chun Li.

“I’m Huncho Bison (Huncho Bison) / She treat me righteous (Righteous, righteous) / Nigga don’t mean to brag (No) / I be tryin’ to keep it cool, but I sniped yo’ ass (Swear).”

He also references Nicki Minaj and Takashi 69’s “FeFe”

‘We were never consulted'' - South-East leaders react to Peter Obi's emergence as Atiku's running mate

South-East leaders and governors today said the PDP presidential candidate in the 2019 election, Atiku Abubakar, did not consult them before picking one of their sons, Peter Obi, as his running mate. Atiku announced Peter Obi as his running mate yesterday October 12th.

Rising from a meeting today, the South East leaders say they were sidelined by Atiku. Speaking on behalf of the leaders, Ebonyi state governor, Dave Umahi, said the leaders would however support anyone picked from the region, adding they were not aware of Obi's candidacy.

“We just finished our meeting and we want to use the opportunity to congratulate our presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, for his very well deserved victory (at) our very transparent and fair primaries that we just finished in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. It is our prayer that God will sustain him and lead him and take him to that destination that PDP gave him our ticket. We have met because of what we saw in the social media over the issue of vice-presidential candidate. In as much as we will never be against anybody chosen from south-east to be the presidential running mate to our PDP candidate but we are shocked and surprised that social media starts carrying such insinuation that the leaders of south-east are not aware that our candidate has chosen a candidate.

'Fake news fuels crisis in Nigeria' - Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Saturday appealed to all Nigerians to join forces with government to combat the menace of fake news.

The minister made the appeal while speaking at the inaugural lecture of the Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria (GPBN) in Lagos with the theme of the lecture was “Combating Fake News in the Cyberspace”.  

Mohammed said the collective efforts of all Nigerians were needed in view of the threats fake news posed to peace and unity of the country. He explained that most of the security issues confronting the country, such as herders/farmers were caused by the misrepresentation of facts in both the mainstream and social media.

“The media have a responsibility to verify the facts before they share, because once they share, it is always very difficult to retract. You see most of the issues we have about herders/farmers clashes, killings are being fuelled by fake news. Look at the farmers/herders’ clashes, the truth is that they are being caused largely by population explosion, climate change and pure criminality.

So, it has nothing to do with religion or ethnicity. Nigeria at Independence only had 45 million people  but today, we are 190 million people. You can imagine the same water, same air and same arable land available for 45 million people at Independence are now being shared by 190 million people.

It is like a room that can take 45 people, you now bring 190 people, you can imagine what will happen.  So, that is the honest truth about population explosion. Then, the other is climate change. We read about earthquakes and flooding in different parts of the world. These are manifestations of climate change. So, how does it affect Nigeria?  

The Lake Chad that used to cover a surface area of 25,000sq km and 35 million people from six nations, including Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad depend on the water for fishing, agriculture, irrigation and so on. The same water has shrunk to 2000 sq km. So, these 35 million people have to look for water elsewhere.

That is why we have all these clashes. Of course, I must state the issue of criminality too, but we must stop presenting the issues as if it is Muslims against Christians or Hausas against Ibos. That’s not true. So, we should stop this narrative of Christians/Muslims or North/South. We are dealing with pure criminality, population explosion and climate change and that is the way we should look at it.

If we continue to post fake news attributing different reasons to the real causes of these issues, a stage will come when Muslims will be suspicious of Christians, Christians become suspicious of Muslim for no reason. And that is not good for our unity,” he said.  

The minister said the government was partnering different media organisations to check the problem of fake news. He listed some of them as the News Agency of Nigeria, Nigeria Television Authority, Vanguard Newspapers and Television Continental (TVC)  Mohammed said the government was also collaborating with local and international social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp to tackle the problem of fake news.  

He described bloggers as critical stakeholders in the media industry in view of their number and capacity to influence others. While stating the readiness of government to collaborate with them on the threats of fake news, the minister urged them to uphold the ethics of the profession to ensure they disseminate only credible information.

A Nigerian boy who was to be deported from Ireland has been allowed to remain in the country after his classmates mounted a campaign against his deportation.

14-year-old Nonso Muojeke of Tullamore College in Ireland who alongside his brother Viktor Muojeke and his mother Chidiebere Muojeke who were to be deported, were granted leave to remain in Ireland.

Thanks to his fellow students and teachers who staged up an unthinkable campaign before the deportation was revoked.  This was achieved by a  21,000 signature-strong online campaign which was set up by his classmates at Tullamore College.

They also printed posters of Nonso and shared on social media including taking to the streets in Ireland to campagn against the deportation. 

The Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) of the Department of Justice and Equality in a statement confirmed that Nonso Muojeke and his family will be allowed to remain in Ireland.

A statement from the Department of Justice said the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service (INIS) had revoked the deportation order following “a detailed reconsideration of the family’s immigration case in light of court proceedings and the receipt of updated submissions from the family in September.

“The reconsideration was completed towards the end of last week with the relevant decision letters having been issued earlier this week.”

Nonso issued a statement on Wednesday evening following the announcement that he and his family had been granted leave to remain in Ireland.

“I would like to thank the Minister [for Justice] for the humane way in which he handled my case. I am very grateful to my friends, my school, the Tullamore community and everyone else who has supported me. I am really looking forward to my future here in Ireland.”

The teenager moved to Ireland with his mother and older brother after his father died in 2007. The family reportedly fled Nigeria because of the ill-treatment Mr. Muojeke’s mother had faced. However, their application for asylum was declined in 2009 and they were served with a deportation order.

Mr. Muojeke’s mother continued to engage with the State through solicitors but the family’s application for humanitarian leave to remain in 2017 was refused.

The family can now legally live and work in the country.

Usain Bolt scores first two goals in professional football (Videos)

Usain Bolt, 32, has scored his first goals in his second trial match for a Australia's Central Coast Marinersto boost his chances of becoming a professional footballer.

The Jamaican eight-time Olympic sprint champion and world’s fastest man scored the Mariners' third and fourth goals in a 4-0 win over Macarthur South West on Friday and celebrated with his trademark lightning bolt pose.

After the match, Bolt who wore No 95 shirt, in reference to his world record time over 100m said: "Dreams become reality through hard work".

"My first start and scoring two goals, it's a good feeling, I'm happy I could come here and show the world I'm improving. I'm keen to be a Mariner, to play my best and get into the team," he added.

The 100m and 200m world record holder has previously trained with Borussia Dortmund, South African clubSundowns and Norway's Stromsgodset.
