Niyi Ademoroti: Why Davido Speaking Out About the Osun Election is Important
The Osun State governorship election rerun looks like something out of the 2003 elections. Free and fair is some distant idea, foreign and unreasonable.
There have been reports of security agencies keeping voters out of polling units. Gunshots also have been reported. There has been news of political thugs collecting, at gunpoint, the Permanent Voters Card of voters.
And the rerun is going on only in seven polling units.
Seven.
The election is between the All Progressives Congress (APC)‘s Gboyega Oyetola and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)‘s Ademola Adeleke.
Musician Davido has been invested in the election since its inception. Sure, he’s Adeleke’s nephew, but did he really have to cancel tour dates to go on campaign runs? He’s encouraged fans to vote for his uncle. He’s performed for audiences across Osun State. He’s traveled with the campaign team, donned their campaign ankara, everything an active supporter would do for their candidate. All that’s left is the door-to-door handing out of campaign handbills. (Imagine opening your front door to find Davido trying to canvass for your vote.)
Throughout the election rerun, Davido has been on his social media, speaking out against the reported electoral malpractices. He has shared links, photos and videos and news articles about the process.

POLITICSBREAKING: Osun rerun: INEC declares APC candidate, Oyetola winner
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday morning declared Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, APC, winner of the Osun State governorship election.
The State Returning Officer of the contest, Prof. Joseph Adeola Afuwape, made the declaration after reeling out scores of all the 48 candidates that participated in the election one after the other.
He said, “Oyetola, having satisfied the provision of law, by polling the highest votes in the contest is now declared winner of the gubernatorial election held on September 22, 27 in Osun State.
DAILY POST earlier reported that the APC had won the supplementary election held on Thursday in six polling units out of the seven units in which election was conducted across four local governments of Orolu, Ife South, Ife North, and Osogbo.

RE-RUN TOTAL

PDP. 325
FINAL RESULT
APC. 255,505
PDP. 255,023
In a swift reaction, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, described the supplementary election as a broad day robbery and the most brazen assault on democracy in the history of the state.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the Chairman of the party, Hon. Soji Adagunodo, the copy which was made available to newsmen in Osogbo.
Adagunodo accused the ruling APC of conniving with security personnel to manipulate the electoral process, vowed to resist it in due course.
He explained that thousands of eligible voters were chased away from their homes in Orolu, Ife North and Ife South Local Governments in the early hours of Thursday .
“Scores of our supporters in those local governments were shot and matchetted on their way to polling centres and in the full glare of security men. Hundreds of people holding PVCs from other polling units were accredited and allowed to vote in Osogbo and Ife South Local Governments.
” PDP agent in Olode was axed and abducted at about 7am today. Media men and election observers were denied access in several polling units. By the time access was granted to journalists at about 11am, ballot boxes had been stuffed by APC agents acting in connivance with INEC officials.
“It is regrettable that election in 7 polling units could not be freely and fairly concluded by the Independent National Electoral commission.
“We reject any returns of results from this sham and call on the INEC authorities in Abuja to direct that the so called supplementary election result collation be put on hold now.
“We equally invite leaders of thought in Nigeria and the International community to rise up now to rescue Nigeria’s democracy from being ruined.
“We also call on all members and supporters of our party to resist any attempt to foist a concocted election results on the people of Osun using all legal means at their disposal”.
EPL: Pogba’s agent sets date to decide player’s future at Manchester United
Paul Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, is set to hold showdown talks with Manchester United in November.
The France midfielder’s relationship with Jose Mourinho has broken down significantly in recent months and tensions have risen between the pair once again this week.
Following United’s draw with Wolves, the manager stripped Pogba of the vice-captaincy and Sky Sports’ cameras captured a tense exchange between both men at the club’s training ground on Wednesday morning.
The Red Devils were determined to keep hold of Pogba during the summer transfer window amid interest from Barcelona, but the club are now increasingly resigned to losing the World Cup winner.
According to The Guardian, Raiola wants to meet United in November, to discuss whether Pogba will be allowed to leave in January or next summer.
Raiola will wait until November, in case Mourinho is sacked in the next few weeks.
Pogba is tied into a deal at Old Trafford until the summer of 2021.
EPL: Hazard speaks on being compared with Messi, Ronaldo
Chelsea forward, Eden Hazard, has admitted it feels good to hear that he’s among the world’s very best players, SportsMail reports.
However, Hazard insisted he is more concerned with trying to win silverware, than achieve any specific goal tally.
The Belgium captain has been in fine form for Chelsea this season; scoring five times in their opening six Premier League matches.
He also netted a stunning late winner in Wednesday’s 2-1 Carabao Cup third round victory at Liverpool.
Chelsea assistant boss Gianfranco Zola said that goal, which Hazard has described as “special”, proves the 27-year-old is one of the world’s finest players.
When Blues midfielder, Ross Barkley was recently asked about Hazard and the level of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, he said he believed his team-mate was currently the best in the world.
When he was asked how he felt about comments like that, Hazard said: “It is good. I try to do what I can do when I am on the pitch. I am the same player as two years ago, three years ago.
“At the moment, I am just scoring goals, so that is why everyone is talking for me to be in the top three. It is a pleasure to be there. I just want to keep going.”

Adesua Etomi in a power suit is just what we need!
The actress who is currently in New York for the 2018 Goalkeepers event, shared a photo from what according to her, has been the most inspiring day of her life.
Clad in Mai Atafo, Adesua shared what she got up to the day before, writing:
Mandate: We mean serious business.
Me: I Gatchu π©πΌ
Suit: @maiatafo
Event: Goalkeepers Report Event.
Location: New York
Organisers: @gatesfoundation
Yesterday was the MOST INSPIRATIONAL DAY OF MY ENTIRE LIFE. I sat in a room filled with a select group of people. Most of which were young people. Most of which were women.
I heard the most amazing stories of compassion, change and progress.
I was presented with more world data than I’ve ever seen.
I saw some innovations that blew my mind.
People are thinking.
People are doing.
People are instigating and causing positive change.
Progress is possible but it is not inevitable. It will not fall into our laps. We have to work towards the progress we want to see. We have to demand for what is ours. We have to do more. Each and every one of us.
A fire has been lit in my belly.
I can’t wait to return.
I can’t wait to do more.
Please read about the 17 Global Goals. (Link in my bio) People are changing the world. One idea at a time. One person at a time. Let’s be part of the solution, not the problem.
Young people, I promise you, there’s more to life than shoes, bags, clothes, selfies and internet wars. We can make real change.
I haven’t done enough. I will do better and when it’s time, I hope and pray that you join me to make change.
I was there for a reason. God knew I needed to be there.
Nigeria CAN be better.
For those that say ‘it can’t be done’…I have an answer. In the words of the great Nelson Mandela, ‘It seems impossible until it’s done’.
The vision will be shared in due time.
I will do more. π§‘π§‘π§‘

Serena Williams
In her first appearance since the 2018 US Open final, tennis champion Serena Williamsopened up about failures and receiving feedback.
Serena spoke on stage at the Shop.Org conference in Las Vegas.
On receiving feedback: “It’s hard. It so happens to be my specialty because I’ve been taking feedback since I was like 3 years old. I’m really good at taking feedback,” columnistEd Graney quoted her as saying in Las Vegas Review Journal.
“You have to just be extremely humble. It’s not easy. The second I get off the court, I don’t want anyone telling me how I played well. I want to know what I did wrong. What can I do better the next time?” she added.
Graney also added that she spoke about failures to those who gathered at the hotel she was staying.
“Failure is such a good thing to have and do in your career. I can’t tell you how many times I failed. It’s the reason I am who I am. I have won so many matches and different tournaments because of the failures.
You don’t build tenacity, you don’t build work ethic, you don’t build a lot of stuff without failing. It makes you stronger, grittier and extra appreciative when you do reach your goals,” she was quoted as saying.
